How to play movies from the internet

Extracting files

Usually, when u download a movie from the internet, it's in a compressed archive split into several smaller files. The format used includes .7z , .zip , .rar, 001 etc. To extract these files u will need the appropriate sofeware (ex: 7zip, winzip, winrar). I would recommend 7zip for this job as it's free (open sourced) and do the job very well.

after installing the program you can extract the file by :
right click > 7zip > extract to current folder

note: before doing the extraction, make sure all the parts or files of the movie is downloaded and placed in the same folder. After extraction the archive can be deleted.

Getting a media player

There are many media players that can do the job of playing movies, the most common one is Windows Media Player, which you probably already have. Alternatively, you can use VideoLAN - VLC Media Player. It is a open sourced software and thus free and actually a very good media player. Using this player, u don't need to install any codec packs which will be explained later.

Codec Packs

If you use Windows Media Player, you will need to install a codec pack to play the movies. A codec is a device or computer capable of encoding and/or decoding a digital data stream or signal. The word codec is a short of coder-decoder (source : Wikipedia). There a many codec pack avaliable and an example is K-Lite Codec Pack.

note: u don't need to install any codec packs for VLC Media Player as it already have all the codecs.

After all is done

After everything is done, just double click on the movie to play.
